Welcome to Jazz-It-Up 2012 hosted by The Trinity House!
Jazz-It-Up 2012 is the second annual Jazz Benefit Concert for a Cause brought to you by and for The Trinity House! This year we are featuring Gerald Albright and Norman Brown at the beautiful Humphreys by the Bay on Shelter Island (see the photo to your right). We will also enjoy Aysha with special guest Elan Trotman as the dinner entertainment and opening act. And to honor America's finest city, we have added a special surprise which includes San Diego's own gospel jazz musician Jason Brown! The date is Saturday September 8th, 2012. The evening starts at 5:00PM for our VIP Platinum guests where they will meet Gerald Albright & Norman Brown at a private dinner/reception with entertainment from 2009, 2010 Jazz Artist of the year Aysha along with special guest Elan Trotman. This will then be followed by a spectacular concert for all to enjoy on Humphreys outdoor concert stage (doors: 6:00PM, concert: 7PM)!!!! Note that although the event is at Humphreys by the Bay, this is a private event hosted by The Trinity House and you can not get tickets at the Humphreys box office or ticket master.Tickets can only be purchased online at this website or from a Jazz-It-Up ticket sales person.
As you may know, Gerald Albright gets down with the get down! Gerald brings it like no other! Albright's contemporary and straight-ahead collections have established the Los Angeles-based musician as one of the most prominent artists. Indeed, Albright was one of the ten featured saxophonists who performed at President Clinton’s inauguration. He was also featured at the Presidential Summit, as well as several private functions for the President. Gerald is one of the most prominent jazz artists of today, with over 1,000,000 albums sold in the U.S. alone. If you've ever had a chance to catch Gerald in concert, there is no doubt that you partied -- because Gerald wouldn't have it any other way.
And to Jazz-It-Up even more, we have GRAMMY Award winning artist Norman Brown! It is widely known that Norman gets close and intimate with his audience. For almost two decades he has presented an engaging and mutually rewarding experience. With this multitalented guitarist, composer and singer, we will be entertained with tasty sonic tidbits of classic R&B and contemporary jazz. Brown keeps the good vibes going on his long- awaited new release, Sending My Love, arriving this June on Peak Records. “I‟m a loving guy -- I hear that a lot. I started reading my emails and the fans were sending me so much love that I wanted to send them love back,” explains the artist, who wrote nine of the ten tunes on this offering. “The CD is about pure love, love in all its many aspects: a personal relationship and a general love for the planet and for people. We should be kind to each other,” he adds.
And of course we must give our local artists their props! That brings us to Jason Brown who is no stranger to Humphreys. 37,000 attendees remember Jason Brown who played the National Anthem on opening day for the New Petco Park Stadium. Jason has also played with the great Stevie Wonder, and has opened for superstars such as John Legend and Macy Gray, to name a few. Jason will celebrate his birthday with us on September 8th where we wlll also be enjoy the release of his new CD "All Around Town".
Nominated in 2009 and 2010 for Jazz Artist of the Year and winner of Jazz Album of the Year for the 2010 Los Angeles Music Awards, Aysha has a solid history as a performer. For the past eight years she has built a strong solo career. In 2006, Aysha independently released her debut CD “Love Is A Rock” and after much anticipation, released her sophomore CD “Stay With Me" in August 2010. Aysha is a successful Jazz and R&B vocalist with various appearances on the music circuit on and off the stage. Her velvety voice is sultry and smooth with a jazzy edge. Having influences ranging from the likes of Sade, Toni Braxton, Phyllis Hyman & Chante Moore, one can only imagine the vibe. Aysha’s music is destined to be heard, and it will surely soothe your soul.
And it just keeps getting better and better as now we are bringing more SWAG to your Jazz-It-Up Experience! How, you may ask? I am sooooo excited to announce that we have added the Sax-Man Elan Trotman to the show! Elan has recorded and performed with a number of world-class musicians, including Roberta Flack, Kirk Whalum, Peter White, Jeff Lorber, Paul Brown, Brian Simpson, Johnny Gill, Nick Colionne, and the list goes on and on. Elan Trotman’s music has that unique edge where its vibe is instantly seductive and familiar, but also offers explosive playing and compelling compositions. Inspired by Grover Washington, Jr. and Kirk Whalum, among others, Elan displays his own fresh ideas and distinctive tone, so much so that he's a 3-time winner of the New England Urban Music Award for Best Jazz Male, nominated for a Boston Music Award in 2010 for Best Jazz Male, and winner for Instrumentalist of the Year (Barbados) in 2011. SO let's Jazz-It-Up with Jason Brown, Gerald Albrght, Norman Brown, Elan Trotman and Aysha on September 8th at Humphreys by the bay! I promise that this will be a night that you will never forget!
